Just Engaged, Now What?

Pop the champagne and pour the bubbly, you’ve just received a ring! What’s next? Before you dive into your wedding planning process, take a moment to fully celebrate your engagement. It is okay to not have answers to your family and friends’ never-ending wedding questions. Do not overwhelm yourself by pinning every thought on Pinterest, jumping into dress shopping, or scheduling venue tours. Give yourself the opportunity to settle into the next stage of your relationship. When you feel ready to move forward with your wedding plans follow our step-by-step guide below!

NUMBER 1
Determine Your Vision

Set a “vision date” with your fiance to intentionally discuss your wedding vision. Choose a cozy, inspiring space, where you and your partner feel comfortable to brainstorm and voice your ideas. First off, reflect on your relationship together and determine the values that you both hold close. Before envisioning details try to determine how you both would like to feel on your wedding day. Additionally, how you would like your guests to feel at your event. What do you want to remember from your wedding day?

Ask yourself the following questions:
1. Define your priorities, separately, then together
Knowing what matters most helps you avoid overwhelm and allocate your budget with purpose.
2. Create a Shared Moodboard or Inspiration File
Use Canva or Pinterest to pull inspiration from nature, fashion, art, film, interiors—not just weddings. Look for recurring themes: colors, materials, environments, emotions.
3. Talk About the Setting & Scale
Where do you picture getting married (city, coast, forest, family property)? What feels more “you”—50 guests under the stars or 150 guests in a historic hall? Discuss how your setting supports your values and the feeling you want to create.
4. Identify What you Don’t Want
What wedding traditions don’t feel right for you? What do you want to avoid (e.g., a stuffy timeline, over-formality, excess waste)?

Your wedding vision isn’t about being trendy or Pinterest-perfect—it’s about being you. Let it evolve naturally, but keep coming back to your original intent. That’s what makes it unforgettable.

NUMBER 2
Outline A Budget

Establish who will be contributing financially to the wedding budget
It is common for individuals who provide financial support to expect some level of involvement in decision-making. If your families, in addition to you and your fiancé, are contributing to the overall budget, it is important to have open conversations early on to understand whether they have specific preferences or priorities regarding how their contributions are allocated. Clarifying these expectations at the outset promotes transparency and helps avoid misunderstandings throughout the planning process

Determine a realistic budget range before exploring wedding costs
Prior to researching industry pricing or meeting with vendors, it’s important to establish a financial range that you and your partner feel comfortable investing in your wedding. Defining this range early provides a grounded starting point for all planning decisions, helping you prioritize effectively and make informed choices that align with both your vision and financial comfort level.

NUMBER 3
Book A Wedding Planning Consult

Schedule a 60-minute consultation with By Emma B to align your wedding vision with your budget and receive a clear, actionable planning roadmap.
